                                 CALL TO WORSHIP

                           (Tune: “Come Thou Almighty King”)

Glory to God on high!

Let earth to heaven reply, “Praise ye His name!”

Angels His love adore,

Who all our sorrows bore,

And saints cry evermore, “WORTHY THE LAMB!”

All they around the throne

Clothed in His righteousness — praising His name!

We by faith plead His blood,

Sealing our peace with God,

Sound His dear name abroad, “WORTHY THE LAMB!”

Though we must change our place,

Yet will we never cease — praising His name!

To Him we’ll tribute bring,

Hail Him our sovereign King,

And without ceasing sing, “WORTHY THE LAMB!”

Isaiah 32 — {1}  Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment ... {17}  And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

REST IN CHRIST AND HIS FINISHED WORK ALONE

W

hen sinners become convinced by the Spirit in Regeneration that Christ “put away sin”, “abolished death”, and Eternally Justified EVERY sinner He lived and died for, they WILL HEED the Spirit’s exhortation to REST in the work of Christ ALONE.  They will heed the Spirit’s command to stop looking WITHIN for any part of their standing before God, “Let not sin reign, but yield yourselves to God,”   “Let not sin therefore REIGN..”  “Neither YIELD ye your members…”  These are present imperatives (on-going commands).  Do not CONTINUE to let sin keep you trying to work out your own Righteousness before God.  Example:  Rom 10: 1-3.  Hear the Righteousness of God REVEALED in the Gospel.  Submit to it.  And, repent of ever thinking you could make ANY contribution to your standing before God.

THE NEED OF FAITH

What is the gospel? The gospel concerns all God has done to deliver His chosen people from imputed damnation and their native darkness. The gospel concerns the elect. Looking at their Substitute on the cross, God delivered them from the Law’s penalties. God discharged sin & imputed righteousness.

The gospel is concerned with God delivering them from the darkness of disbelieving and misbelieving. By sovereign spiritual awakening God enters the soul of the elect and enlightens them regarding what He has done. With the mind illuminated and the affections fired, the will obeys and follows God’s sovereign call of grace. They turn from false notions of God to the way of light.

The gospel concerns God’s unconditional election in eternity, justification by Christ at the cross, and the Holy Spirit awakening them in time. This is not alternate doctrine or higher doctrine, it is the only doctrine.

And this gospel must be,

Heard (Eph 1:13)

Understood (Rom 15:20-21)

Believed (Rom 10:14, 16)

WHY DID JESUS CHRIST COME INTO THE WORLD?

M

any talk about Christ’s second coming who have not yet understood His first coming.   The popular belief is that He came into the world to make people happy, prosperous, and healthy, and to try to save as many as possible.  Others believe that it was to save them from hell, if they will just live right, be right and do right, or simply accept him as their Savior.

How different then the message of the Bible!  Men’s testimonies aside, “THIS is a faithful saying and worthy of ALL acceptation that Christ Jesus came into the world TO SAVE SINNERS, of whom I am chief,” I Timothy 1:15.  His purpose in coming was not our health, wealth, and happiness, but the glory of God in the salvation of sinners, John 17:1  These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:’

Our biggest enemy is our sin, not our poverty.  It is our rebellion before a holy God, not whether we live to a ripe old age.  We are sinners by imputation of Adam’s sin to us, Romans 5:12.  We can only be declared righteous by the just satisfaction of a Holy God, and that ONLY by the obedience unto death of the Lord Jesus.  At that time and place God wholly charged the debt of the sin of His people to His Son, and simultaneously charged His righteousness to the spiritual account of every one of the elect of all ages at one time, (Luke 9:31, Hebrews 9: 15-17).  In His death, there was a two-fold transaction accomplished between God the Father and God the Son.  He put away forever the sin of His people, and forever justified them (acquitted and declared them righteous), once and for all- Hebrews 10:10, 14.

That is what He came and accomplished for sinners, even the chief.  If your hope is anywhere else than in THIS ONE who came, lived, died, and rose again, that God might be the just justifier, revealed in those who believe on HIM (Romans 3:26) you are yet in your ignorance and unbelief and stand in need of deliverance from your spiritual death.  The glorious good news is that the Lord Jesus came and died to deliver from spiritual and eternal death sinners such as us.  It is the Lord God, who grants His Spirit to each of His own elect, in His time, and causes them to cry unto Him for mercy in truth, and rejoice in HIS appointed salvation that His Son fully accomplished for them!
